A HUGE SUCCESS -THE TELECOM TREE @ WESTERN PARK

Waohooooooo! What a result.……..much like the All Whites……….and thanking you Santa!

This is a golden opportunity Ponsonby people. We need to take full advantage of the Telecom Tree and make it very hard for Telecom to even consider other future destinations. We are not sure how many years we have, so get behind it and get involved this Christmas. We have made a financial contribution towards the tree’s installation in Western Park, so make the most of it.

Ponsonby can sparkle much like London’s Oxford & Regent Streets – we’ve got Franklin Rd lights, the Telecom Tree and all of Ponsonby’s businesses to take up the challenge and shine.

More than 80,000 people flocked to see this wonderful tree last year to call Santa and marvel at the lightshows. This is why we are opening our businesses for late night xmas shopping (Dec 14 – 23: weeknights till 8pm) and then encouraging shoppers to dine/drink through the xmas drinks promotion (see below) and to then check out the Ponsonby lights!

The switch gets flicked on Saturday 28th November and runs to Saturday 26th December. Installation has already begun as you would have noticed. The stunning 26 metre-high Telecom Tree (about seven storeys) is constructed from 37,000 lights and has 16 million possible colour combinations. The tree also provides a place for children to ring the North Pole direct from dedicated Telecom Santa Line phone boxes at the base of the tree. Once they’ve made their wish, their voices magically activate the lights running from their phone box to the star at the top of the tree. And it’s no ordinary star. This year the 8-pointed electronic radiant star atop the tree will do something special every 15 minutes.

Starship, New Zealand's national children's hospital, is the official Telecom Tree charity in Auckland this year, and guests are encouraged to bring an old mobile phone for Starship's mobile phone recycling appeal to place in gift boxes under the Tree.
