This is a golden opportunity Ponsonby people. We need to take full advantage of the Telecom Tree and make it very hard for Telecom to even consider other future destinations. We are not sure how many years we have, so get behind it and get involved this Christmas. We have made a financial contribution towards the tree’s installation in Western Park, so make the most of it.

Ponsonby can sparkle much like London’s Oxford & Regent Streets – we’ve got Franklin Rd lights, the Telecom Tree and all of Ponsonby’s businesses to take up the challenge and shine.

Join the Christmas Party as we welcome the festive season in true Ponsonby style!  Take advantage of the fabulous market day deals on offer and let your senses be entertained by a stack of musicians, choirs and performing artists.  We’ve even got our beautiful drag queens handing out xmas cake.

Keep an eye out for the Greater Auckland Chorus, the DeSotos, the Jazz Santas, Lewis McCullum’s sax trio, Cameron Bennett and his One More Dollar band, the amazing percussion group AK Samba, African band Zoh Zoh, Mohave, Queen City Big Band, Easy, Radioglo, Montaca and a stack more.

Like last year we will be running this competition again to encourage businesses within the Ponsonby Business Association boundary to Christmas decorate and make Ponsonby sparkle.

We need to put on a good Ponsonby show as already mentioned so get involved and get decorating - there are some great prizes to be won!

Tuesday 1st December

Come and support your local community as the switch gets flicked to turn on the wonderful and colourful Franklin Rd Christmas lights.

Ross Thorby and numerous Franklin Rd residents enthuse into action and provide the Ponsonby area with an amazing spectacle of light that every year attracts thousands of wide eyed Aucklanders to Ponsonby. This is not to be missed!

Good on you Roscoe and we thoroughly appreciate all that hard work behind the scenes.

Sunday 6th December: 7pm to 9pm

Come and join in on this local community event, proudly sponsored by Auckland City Council and held at Freemans Bay School for an evening of carols and christmas spirit.

Saturday 12th September: 10am to 3pm

Ponsonby Market Day will welcome in the days of spring with one of our biggest to date!  A fabulous day for hot deals, music and live entertainment.  Shop till you drop then linger over lunch (or a liquid lunch).  Keep an eye out for the likes of Lewis McCullum’s sax trio, Cameron Bennett and his One More Dollar band, the amazing percussion group AK Samba, the African Zoh Zoh drummers, Mohave, the Nukes with their ukuleles, 27 members of the Queen City Big Band, Easy at Richmond Rd, Radioglo, Montaca (the boys from Kantuta) and a whole lot more. 

Western Park will be packed with loads of fun stuff for the kids so make sure you check it out; Old MacDonald’s Farm animals, Kruzin Kids car rides, bouncy castles, tug boat, climbing tower, face painters, fairies, balloon sculpturists.

Western Park will also play host to the Frocks Day Out – a Celebration of Cycling.  This Frocks on Bikes event not only supports the reduction of speed to a safer 40km/h, but all things sustainable and the 350 climate challenge.  There will be Dj’s, bike checks & try outs, prizes for best dressed and of course Good Water keeping everyone hydrated. 

The glamorous “frock flock” and supporting stylish gents will travel along Ponsonby Rd at 1pm, so join the movement and get involved.………..and pray for blue skies.

A beautiful summers evening in Western Park set the scene for what would be a fantastic night, at the Ponsonby Business Association's fundraiser.

Close to 300, people of Ponsonby and lovers of Ponsonby, gathered to support the launch and desired return of a Ponsonby styled annual big event – a Ponsonby Mardi Gras.

Local comedian Justine Smith entertained and amused as she kicked off the night - a night filled with cocktails & bubbly; fine food & wine; AK Samba; body painted acrobats, dancers & their gimps; stilt walkers; fire dancers; drag queens; a tango trapeze duo; plus superb performances from both Hollie Smith and Leza Corbin.

Splore’s Living Lounge Features Comedy, Music and Entertainment in February

Colour, comedy, music, zany costumes and entertainment like you’ve never seen before come to Auckland at a stunning new outdoor venue for four days in February.

The Living Lounge opens on Western Park, Ponsonby, Auckland from February 26 – March 1 as part of the inaugural Auckland Fringe Festival, featuring international cult comedy/music act The Cuban Brothers, the hit show of Splore 08, The Butterfly Zoo cabaret show, together with top New Zealand musician Liam Finn and Grammy Award-winning Jamaican singer Michael Rose (Black Uhuru).

Featuring a diverse programme of music, comedy and entertainment, The Living Lounge is a stunning red tent where audience members are encouraged to come dressed in their finery!

Free guided walks in and around the fascinating suburb of Ponsonby tell both the social and architectural history of the area.

The walk takes about two hours and will take place on Saturdays at 10am. If you prefer you can down load the walks from this website and follow the simple maps.
